FREE LOCKAGE:

During the Canada Strong Pass period, free lockage will be available for boats, canoes and kayaks travelling Canada’s historic canals and waterways. Access to the lock sites is always free, but fees apply for boating services, programs and parking (where offered).

PERMITS:

Lockage permits will not be sold online at any time during the 2026 season. Boaters and paddlers locking through during the shoulder season can purchase a permit on-site upon arrival. Lock staff will be available to help you determine the permit option that offers you the best value for your travel plans.

Permit options include:

  • 1-day permit
  • Lock and return permit
  • 6-day permit
  • One-way transit permit (only in Ontario)
  • Seasonal lockage permit

Seasonal Mooring Permits will be available for purchase online starting spring 2026. All other mooring permits can be purchased on site (where available). Mooring is not reservable, and space is on a first-come first-served basis.

At lock sites where reservable camping or overnight accommodation is available, permits may be purchased online through the Parks Canada Reservation System. Some sites offer thru-camping on a first-come first-served basis. Check with the lockstation before you travel.
