1971 / 2011 C&C 43 – Mme Caprice
Mme Caprice is one of those rare, once-in-a-lifetime yachts that is difficult to adequately describe.
The legendary C&C 43s, built by Bruckmann, are renowned for their strength, performance and exceptional sailing characteristics. Powerful, fast and beautifully balanced, these yachts were built to sail, and Mme Caprice is an extraordinary example of what can be achieved when one is restored without compromise.
Originally built in 1971, Mme Caprice underwent an extensive rebuild and refit beginning in 2003 and continuing through 2007, with the project substantially completed in 2011. More than 7,000 hours of craftsmanship went into her transformation, with the yacht taken back to her bare bones and meticulously rebuilt.
The result is something very different from a typical 1971 C&C 43.
"Iconic" may be the best way to describe the transformation of this thoroughbred offshore racer into an elegant luxury racer/cruiser. Virtually every aspect of the yacht received attention during the rebuild, combining the strength, pedigree and sailing performance of the original C&C design with extensively renewed systems, equipment, finishes and accommodations.
Since completion of the major portion of her rebuild, Mme Caprice has served as a showpiece for what is possible when one of these legendary yachts is restored and customized to an exceptionally high standard. The quality of the workmanship and attention to detail are apparent throughout.
Her appeal, however, goes well beyond appearance. Beneath the beautifully finished exterior remains the heart of a C&C 43 — a powerful offshore sailing yacht with a genuine performance pedigree. These boats were designed to be sailed, and Mme Caprice combines that performance with the comfort and refinement of a custom luxury yacht.
Always freshwater sailed, Mme Caprice represents a very unusual opportunity in today's market. She is not simply an older C&C that has received periodic upgrades. She is the product of thousands of hours devoted to rebuilding, refining and preserving an important Canadian performance yacht while transforming her into something truly unique.
For the knowledgeable sailor who appreciates C&C and Bruckmann craftsmanship, Mme Caprice deserves serious consideration. She offers the character and pedigree of a classic offshore racer, the elegance of a custom yacht and a level of restoration rarely encountered in a vessel of this vintage.
